University of kalaniya has a very big proud history..Now 10000 undergraduate students are studeis at university of kalaniya. It creats many special charactors in to the world. Otherwise we can't get the 3rd best university of sri lanka.
In 1875 Rathmalane Drarmaloka thero started Vidyalankara piriwena at paliyagoda. After that, In 1959 Vidyalankara piriwena changed to the Vidyalankara university. But at that time it operned for the monks and boys. only.In 1966 Vidyalankara university was operned for the girls and In 1967 Vidyalankara university opened the science faculty. After than in 1972 vidyalankara university become Vidyalankara mandapaya. In 1975 ,Vidyalankara Mandapaya moved Paliyagoda to Dalugama.In 1978 Vidyalankara Mandapaya become a university of kalaniya.
In now university of kalaniya is the 3rd best university in sri lanka.
University of kalaniya chancler is "Thripitaka vageshwaracharya, Mahopadya, Pandith, The most venarable Walamitiyawe Sri Kusaladhamma thero.
